Mote Marine Laboratory is a non-profit organization. It is a research and educational institute with an aquarium. It was founded by Dr. Eugenie Clark in the year 1955 at Cape Haze of Florida in the United States of America. During the early years, the organization was associated with shark research. In the year 1978, Mote Marine Laboratory shifted its base to Sarasota in Florida. The aquarium is open on all days.
Exhibitions at Mote Marine Laboratory:
Mote Marine Laboratory offers you various exhibitions. At the Florida Bay Habitats, you will encounter innumerable fishes such as filefish, puffers, burr fish with stripes, cowfish and the snook. The seahorse exhibit is the highlight of Mote Marine Laboratory. The seahorses have a unique reproductive story because the males carry the babies. The Grassflats Exhibit will allow you to see how estuary animals such as fighting conch and sea urchins, sea stars and horseshoe crabs live and hide within the sea grass blades.
The creatures from the reef of Florida include spot fin butterfly fish, hogfish, French angle fish, jelly fish, sea nettles and many more. You will also find lobsters, toadfish and scorpion fish next the reef. You will also get to encounter with sea horses.
You can take up the role of the scientists of Mote Marine Laboratory at Shark Tracker. You will get information about how the researchers track sharks by using underwater microphones and high tech equipments. This exhibit highlights the work of Dr. Michelle Heupel, a shark researcher at Mote.
