Georgia Aquarium

Georgia Aquarium is located at Atlanta of Georgia in the United States of America. It is one of the largest aquarium of the world and covers an area of 20 acre. This public aquarium opened for the public in the year 2005. Georgia Aquarium houses more than 120,000 animals of 500 different species. The aquarium features four whales and four young sharks. It is built in a site, which lies north of Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta.

History of Georgia Aquarium:
Bernard Marcus announced the plan to construct an aquarium on November of 2001. His idea was to built an aquarium that will promote economic growth and eduction in Atlanta of Georgia. Marcus along with his wife, Billi visited various aquariums of 13 countries to do research on marine life. The construction of the aquarium was funded by several organizations such as The Home Depot, BellSouth, Southern Company, AirTran Airways, Turner Broadcasting System, Georgia- Pacific, UPS and the Coca- Cola Company. After 27 months the aquarium opened with 60 animal habitats.
Marine life at Georgia Aquarium:
Georgia Aquarium showcases more than 1 Lac fishes and other creatures. There are nearly 500 species of sea creatures. The four young whale sharks are the most popular creatures brought from Taiwan. It is the only aquarium in the United States of America to display Great Hammerhead Shark. This aquarium is also the home of five beluga whales, which are 11 foot in length.

Different galleries of Georgia Aquarium:
The aquarium has five galleries, which features a particular environment. The galleries include Tropical Diver, Georgia Explorer, Cold- Water Quest, Ocean Voyager and River Scout. The tropical Diver features interesting forms of aquatic life such as coral reef.
The Georgia Explorer is very popular with the children. It features sharks and rays. The Cold Water Quest exhibit features animals from the polar regions of the globe. This exhibition includes spider crabs of Japan, sea lions of California and black-footed penguins of Africa. The River Scout showcases electric fish, piranha other fresh water animals. Ocean Voyager has nearly 1,00,000 fishes.

Other Facilities at Georgia Aquarium:
In addition to the marine life habitats, Georgia Aquarium offers a food court with a main lobby. Order for delicious dishes when you are hungry after a tiring day. Apart from the eatery, there is a banquet hall that has the capacity to hold 1100 to 1600 people. The hall covers an area of 16,400 square foot and can be subdivided into three areas for organizing private events. You can also watch 4D movie at the theater.
