The Sea Fisheries Institute Aquarium, Poland which is also known as the Gdynia Aquarium. This is actually one of the departments of the Morski Instytut Rybacki w Gdyni which is mostly conducted for the biological studies of the marine world since 1921. The employees of Sea Fisheries Institute, since 1920s had started collecting natural specimens and from this the idea of the creation of a museum came up. This museum mostly served the purpose to display the works of the Polish biologists. Due to the breaking out of the Second World War this institute had to relocate and in the post world war period the construction and development of the Sea Fisheries Institute was rapid.

The first exhibition following the remodeling of the institution led to the grand inauguration of the Oceanographic Museum and Sea Aquarium on 21st June, 1917.

This aquarium has since its origin welcomed more than 8 million visitors. This aquarium went through the phase I modernization process in 2002 and new aquarium rooms were created which is known to house 11 tanks presently. The collections in this aquarium presents permanent exhibits of the museum related to a variety of topics in the field of marine biology.

The collections also tend to feature aquarium exhibits which gives the visitors a clear idea about the marine life forms.

The Knowledge Programs Conducted in Sea Fisheries Institute Aquarium, Poland

This aquarium with 900 m2 of exhibition space also helps in educating the visitors to know more about the marine world and also conducts lectures for students of primary and secondary schools and also the university interns can gain knowledge from as well. The aquarium staff is known to conduct training programs and the authorities of this aquarium are also involved in protection program namely Protecting Our Baltic. This program adds to the awareness of the kids towards the protection of the marine world.

The two other knowledge programs conducted by Sea Fisheries Institute Aquarium, Poland are Coral reef and Antarctica. In Coral Reef you get to know about the reefs, animals and the challenges involved in the protection of these animals while in Antarctica you get to know about the Southern Ocean and about the flora and fauna in the polar regions.
