NIE Seal Sanctuary

This part of Exploris is one of the prime attractions of this place. The main objective of this section of Exploris is to work for the rescue, rehabilitation and release of homeless seals. It was in the year 1989 that this rescue team was formed. Formerly, this team used to work for very few seals; however, with more popularity this organization started taking care of all the seals staying around the Northern Irish coastline.After the injured or sick seals are brought under the notice of NIE Seal Santuary, they are properly treated. The seals are provided appropriate habitat and a home to stay, till the time they are completely fit. With proper medication they are treated.

As soon as they are found to be back to their normal condition, these seals are left back to their natural environment.

Opening hours and ticket prices of Exploris of Portaferry, Northern Ireland

The opening timing of Exploris varies from the April – August slot and September – March slot. During the weekdays this aquarium is open from 10am to 6pm (April-August) and 10am to 5pm (September-March). On weekends the timing changes during both the seasons.

The ticket rate for adults is £7.00 and for juniors and senior citizens the price is same, £4.00. Children under the age of four years are free to enter and rates for families are on a discounted basis. There are special discounts on Season Tickets.

A number of facilities are catered to the visitors. Spacious parking area is one of the prime facilities. Shops, different activities, image library, education group tour and cafes are the other facilities of Exploris of Portaferry.
